Schools are run by governing bodies who work with Headteachers and senior management teams to ensure pupils get the best education. Think of it like a company where the Headteacher is the chief executive and the governors are the Board of Directors.

What Governors do?

They are responsible for making sure the school is successfully run so that all children are encouraged to achieve their full potential

They are involved in:

Setting the direction, policies and objectives of the school
Approving the school budget
Making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and in particular that the National Curriculum and religious education are taught
Appointing, challenging and supporting the Headteacher
Representing the views of parents
